She attended elementary schools in Rutherford County and graduated from Murfreesboro Central High School where she was active in numerous organizations and activities – most notably the Debate Team, Drama Team (member of the International Thespian Society), school choir, and the Girl’s Track Team.

She is a graduate of the Kentucky State University School of Nursing and a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where she holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts with concentrations in English and Science.

Growing up, Mrs. Fugh was a member of Key United Methodist Church in Murfreesboro, TN, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF). She became a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church when she married her husband, Reverend Clement W. Fugh. She has taken pride in participating in the life of the churches where her husband has been assigned. She believes first and foremost, that ministry is about being a servant to God’s people and not about being served.

She has been an active member of the Women’s Missionary Society and served as local missionary president and Area Chairperson. She has been Chairperson of Women’s Day, a regular contributor to the Children’s Message, and has been guest speaker at various churches. Mrs. Fugh took great pride in being the First Lady and hostess at Greater Bethel AME Church during the dedication celebrations and festivities surrounding the opening of the newly built Greater Bethel AME Church in October 1994.

On July 2, 2012, Reverend Fugh was elected the 131st Bishop of the AME Church and was consecrated on July 4, 2012. Bishop Clement and Supervisor Alexia were assigned to the 14th Episcopal District, which includes Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Corte D’Ivoire and Togo-Benin.

Bishop and Mrs Fugh have been happily married for over 39 years. They are the proud parents of two beautiful and talented adult children: Marcia Dionne Fugh-Joseph and Joseph Edward Fugh. Eight years ago the Fughs were honored to welcome son-in-law, Paul Stephen Joseph into their family. They are also proud and doting grandparents to 5 year old, Miss Taylor Joi Joseph and 1 year old Mr. Paul Steven Joseph, III.

Mrs. Fugh is always amazed at the grace of God, when she looks over her life and realizes how God orchestrated her life events. God has kept her, blessed her and protected her. She feels her life, is a testimony of an AWESOME God!
